Candidate Profile

Candidate should be a native English speaker with a university degree, a recognized TEFL qualification and at least one year of previous experience in a similar context, preferably in Spain. Experience in teaching children and adolescents is essential. We are looking for someone who truly enjoys teaching these age groups. Higher qualifications and experience with Trinity and Cambridge exams is a plus. All applicants must be EU citizens or hold a valid Spanish work permit.

A typical post involves an 18 hour teaching timetable mainly teaching children and adolescents in groups of up to 10 students. Gross monthly salary for 18 contact hours is 1074,65€ which includes approximately ½ hour preparation time per contact hour (the gross monthly salary for a timetable of 21 teaching hours is 1270€). One and a half hour meetings on Friday mornings are part of the contract and are used for teachers' meetings, training sessions and in-service teacher development sessions. Teachers also have weekly fifteen minute individual meetings to discuss specific problems in classes, etc. Student reports must be carefully completed every two months. Additional classes or private classes will be offered to teachers when available.

In total, including teaching, preparation of classes, writing student reports, correcting exams and projects and attending meetings, a teacher with 18 contact hours will work a minimum of 29 hours per week.

Teachers receive approximately two weeks holiday at Christmas, 1 week at Easter and 3 days during the local fair. We also observe all official local, regional and national holidays. Teachers are provided with a full legal contract and general health coverage according to Spanish law. Contracts will be made “fijo discontinuo” after two years at The English House. Free weekly Spanish classes are offered to all full time members of staff.

Teacher Training

Besides internal and external teacher training seminars, we also have class planning meetings and a peer observation program as well as formal observations throughout the year. New teachers will be assigned a mentor to help them through the first months. Teachers can also sign up for one hour per week of free Spanish classes at the school.

What We Expect From Our Teachers

Teachers are expected to have well-prepared, organized classes. We encourage teachers to prepare classes at the school so that they can take advantage of the materials we have, consult with other teachers, prepare photocopies, etc. We expect teachers to present a clean, tidy appearance and maintain a friendly yet professional attitude. They are the most direct contact the students have with the school and therefore the image they project is very important for the success of the school.

And, most importantly, teachers should show interest in development by contributing ideas, suggestions, and attending (or giving!) seminars. We are looking to form a creative environment where real learning takes place .

NB: Candidates must be available in Seville for an interview. We will not conduct phone interviews. Flights will not be reimbursed.
